So, why does the Leatherman make the perfect gift to give almost any adult on your gift list? The reason is that you want to give them something that they will use all the time to solve a problem. Leatherman Crunch

The Leatherman Crunch comes equipped with 13 tools. Those that you will probably use the most are the: (1) vice-grips, (2) serrated blade, and the (3) large flat-head screwdriver. It does not have as many tools as the Wave or any of the other standard Leathermans, but the vice-grips do make up for it.

The Crunch is smaller than the Wave, but considering that it contains fewer tools this is understandable. The design is rather cool…it pops out and will take a few seconds to set up the vice-grips. It feels solid and well built.

It is the honest opinion of this Leatherman Crunch Review that this is a “accessory” multi-tool. It works well to compliment the Wave for example.

There are basically two vice-plier multi-tools out there are the market these days…the Leatherman Crunch and the Gerber Grappler. If you are in the market for a vice-plier multi-tool you will undoubtably come across these two models. The question is, which one is the best? Let us help you to decide.

01) The Leatherman Crunch has plier jaws that must be manually opened. The plier jaws of the Gerber Grappler slide open. The jaws of the Leatherman Crunch open much wider than those of the Gerber Grappler. All in all, I think that the Leatherman Crunch has much better pliers.
02) Other than the pliers, the other tools of the Gerber Grappler are accessible even when the handles of the multi-tool are closed. On the Leatherman Curnch you need to spread the handles in order to access the other tools.
03) The tools of the Gerber Grappler are longer than those of the Leatherman Crunch. The Crunch has a hex opening at the end of the screw handle. All you need to do is remove the screw and you can fit standard bits in the hex opening.
04) When closed the Grappler is bulkier than the Crunch.
05) There is a chance (although small) that your fingers will get pinched when using the Grappler. This is not the case with the Crunch.
06) The Crunch is made in the United States while the Grappler is made in China. This makes a difference for those people who want to support American industries.

The Leatherman Squirt P4 were the first miniature multi-tool centering around pliers (as opposed to scissors) that were tough enough to carry the “Leatherman” name. People found that by attaching this quality little instrument to their keychain they were ready for most of the tasks that they were faced with during the day. This tool has recently been retired by Leatherman, but not to worry…the PS4 is a worthy successor. Without further adieu…let’s start the review…

As previously mentioned, the Leatherman Squirt P4 has a lot of the tools that people find the most useful in the run of the day. For example:

The Leatherman Squirt P4 is made from Stainless Steel and has anodized aluminum handle scales. It is small at 2.25″ (5.75cm) when closed, and weighs only 2oz (57g), so it can easily be carried with you on your keychain via the provided keychain ring. It comes in the dynamic color range of: “Inferno Red”, “Storm Gray”, “Powder Pink”, and “Glacier Blue”. As with all Leathermans it comes with a 25-year limited warranty.

Leatherman Squirt P4 vs PS4

As we mentioned prevously the Leatherman Squirt P4 has recently been retired, but the PS4 is there to take up the slack. Since the Leatherman Squirt P4 revolved around the pliers one thing that people missed and really wanted was a pair of scissors. The good news is that the PS4 has both…pliers as the main tool and a small pair of scissors in the handle that can be folded out for use. You need to keep in mind that these scissors are not the main component of the PS4, so if you want scissors that are much more heavy duty you might want to consider the Leatherman Micra. These scissors are fine for smaller projects (i.e.: fingernails), but they might not be tough enough for larger projects (i.e.: toenails?). Having said that, if you need a pair of scissors…they are better than nothing.

If there is a “bad thing” about having a pair of scissors it is not in the fact that they are not heavy duty. It is the fact that in order to put these into the handle Leatherman had to take something away. They did…the jewellers screwdriver and the awl. Many people found these tools extremely useful…especially those who had eyeglasses and found the screws constantly coming loose.

Leatherman Molle Sheath Review

The Leatherman Molle Sheath that is currently being sold by such great online retailers as Amazon is getting some very impressive reviews. Many people are stating that it is perfect for use on their body armour (some wish that the Military PX’s would carry this product in-stock in Afghanistan and Iraq! As you can imagine, the sheath can take a real beating under these conditions and people are pleased to proclaim that their multi-tool has never fallen out…even while running or under combat. Sounds like a pretty good ringing endorsement to us.

Some additional “pluses” are that the material is of high quality, tough, and very professional in appearance.

Even with all these great things to say about it, it is only natural that there are a few flaws. Nothing is perfect in this world is it? Here are some things that would be nice to have changed in the future:

1) The vertical strap on the sheath works well with Molle gear, but is really too loose to secure to a belt. Using this method the sheath bounces up and down a way too much.
2) The horizontal straps are not quite wide enough to accommodate a regular 1.5″ belt.
3) If you need some convenient little extra slots to carry additional “stuff” you should consider the civilian-style nylon sheath…not the “Molle” unit.
4) The velcro, pardon the expression “sucks”. After a short while it is possible that the loop side becomes a regular “mess” and the hooks will no longer grab to hold it securely into position. A clip, magnet, or snap button would do better I think.
5) This may be really “picky” but the velcro is rather noisy when you open and close it. This is something to really consider if you are engaging in covert operations and need “silence”… Hmmm…come to think about it for hunters as well.

Ok, now that the specs of the New Leatherman Wave are out of the way let’s get down and personal in this review. One thing that we feel is really missing in the Wave is an awl. There are plenty of screwdriver blades…I would gladly change one of those out in favor of an awl. It would also be nice if the small tools would lock. It would also be nice if there was a way that it could use hex bits. The snap on the sheath is rather weak, so forget about it til Leatherman upgrades it.

New Leatherman Wave vs Surge

The Leatherman Wave and the Leatherman Surge are very similar multi-tools. As such, when you go looking for your next Leatherman you are bound to be asking yourself, which one is better for me? In this short paragraph we would like to highlight why we feel that one of these tools is better than the other.

For starters, the Wave is smaller than the Surge. Despite the fact that it is smaller it has much more ergonomic handles. This means that it seems to pinch less when you are using it…making for a much better user experience.

The Surge on the otherhand has an interchangeable file feature. You can also remove the saw and put in a striker in its place. It has a hacksaw and wood saw change out as well.

If you are interested in keeping your Leatherman with you on a routine basis I would go with the Wave. It will stay on your belt pouch and is hardly noticeable. If you don’t mind a larger took then the Surge is the model for you.

Leatherman Kick Multi Tool Review

I’m happy to report that the interior features of the Kick are very easy to access. All you need to do is open the handles and rotate the blades out with the convenient nail nicks. The scissors open in exactly the same way…a swift rotation and a nail nick. Another plus is that when the scissors are fully extended they conveniently lock into place. The tools are all made from 100% stainless steel and engineered to optimum grade hardness for each of the individual tools. Another plus is that the blades can be sharpened by using standard sharpening maintenance. This makes for very easy maintenance.

All in all, I think the Kick is a great cheap alternative to the Juice series. Those who would like a similar and yet lighter product to the Juice line would do good to consider the Kick. People who own the Leatherman Juice will sometimes report that it will stay at home due to the Kick’s larger pliers and extended Phillips and Flathead screwdrivers. If you are planning to take your Leatherman and have concerns on whether you will lose it, take the Kick…it is cheaper than the Juice.

It would be nice if the Kick had a clip. If you don’t wear belts then you will not be able to use the accompanying sheath…but still would like to have the ability to “clip” the Kick into place for ease of travel.

So, all in all, what do we think? Quality built, sharp knife…and great price. The downside is that you might have some trouble opening the tools away from the handles when you first get it.

Leatherman Mut Utility

There are a number of special capabilities that we want to talk about now.  For one, the MUT has a number of areas on it that are threaded for cleaning rods, and brushes and all the screwdriver bits are sized especially for standard civilian and military sighting adjustment work.  The tool also has the capability to replace most of the commonly used parts right on the spot with a simple Torx #8 (which will keep downtime to a minimum).  Adding to this the MOLLE sheath and an included scope adjustment wrench, you may well indeed find that the Leatherman Mut is the most useful and efficient piece of equipment you own.

On the downside it is a tad more expensive than most of the other Leathermans out there on the market.  But when you think about it, what is expensive?  This tool will take care of all your tactical and practical jobs.  It can fix a jeep or fix your kid’s toy.  When taken care of it will last a lifetime.  So, taking this into consideration, what is expensive?

The Leatherman Squirt PS4 is the very latest incarnation of a very popular pocket Leatherman.  I currently own the older P4 model and just love it.  Like the PS4 it is so small and light that I can attach it to my keychain and take it with me out and about. Leatherman Squirt PS4 vs Micra

Before you run out and get yourself a Leatherman Squirt PS4 wait a few minutes til we tell you about its brother tool, the Leatherman Micra.  While both are top quality multi-tools that will serve you well, there are differences.  If you are happy with “stainless steel” then the Micra will server you well, but if you would like a splash of color the PS4 comes in a wide range of colors.  If you really need a dependable and sturdy pair of scissors you would do better to consider the Micra. The scissors on the PS4 will do the job in a pinch, but the Micra scissors are equipped for more durability.

Leatherman Squirt PS4 Multi-Tool

The Leatherman Squirt PS4 has:  (a) three screwdrivers, (b) wire cutters, (c) a blade knife and (d) scissors, etc…in other words all the tools that you will need in a fine little compact package. A 2.25 inches long it also does a fantastic job of staying out of your way, and yet being right there when you need it most.

The Squirt PS4 comes in three colors: (1) Red, (2) Blue, (3) and Black, but I prefer the black model the most.  The others are more “pretty” if that is the right word, but I would rather have something that looks more like a tool than a pair of nail clippers…but that might just be me.  In any case, you are getting one fine tough little multi-tool.

Leatherman Squirt PS4 Torx

You will be happy to know that the screws which are holding the PS4 body together are now Torx T-6 screws so the tension in the tool is adjustable. This is a nice little bonus.
